Promote the Spirit of Craftsmanship and Achieve Corporate Excellence

--------------------Fiery July, Passionate Yangtze River

Riding on the wave of the “Spirit of Craftsmanship” discussion and essay activity organized by the Yueqing Federation of Trade Unions, most of the company's colleagues participated in the discussion and shared their reflections. Here, I would like to talk about why the spirit of craftsmanship is closely related to our company.

First, let’s understand what the spirit of craftsmanship is. According to Baidu Encyclopedia, the spirit of craftsmanship refers to the meticulous attitude of craftsmen towards their products, pursuing excellence and perfection. The goal of the spirit of craftsmanship is to create the highest-quality products in the industry, products that other peers cannot match.

This concept has long existed in our country, but Premier Li Keqiang mentioned it again in the government work report on March 5, 2016: Encourage enterprises to carry out personalized customization and flexible production, cultivate the spirit of craftsmanship that strives for excellence, increase variety, improve quality, and create brands. It was the first time that the "spirit of craftsmanship" appeared in a government work report. In today’s restless society, the pursuit of "short, flat, and fast" (low investment, short cycles, quick results) for immediate gains often neglects the soul of product quality. Therefore, the country encourages enterprises to advocate the spirit of craftsmanship to achieve long-term success in competition.

Under the encouragement of "Internet Plus," the social status of manufacturing has been greatly weakened, and many people consider the emphasis on "craftsmanship" outdated. Currently, China’s economic development has entered a new normal, and the manufacturing sector faces new challenges. Constraints on resources and the environment are increasingly tightening, labor and other production costs continue to rise, investment and export growth is slowing, and the extensive development model based on resource input and scale expansion is no longer sustainable. Structural adjustment, transformation and upgrading, and quality and efficiency improvement are urgent. Forming new drivers of economic growth and shaping new advantages in international competition focuses on manufacturing, is difficult in manufacturing, and the way forward is in manufacturing. Thus, the manufacturing industry is the mainstay of the national economy, the main battlefield of technological innovation, and the foundation and instrument of national prosperity. From "Made in China" to "Intelligent Manufacturing in China," cultivating the "spirit of craftsmanship" is imperative.

A craftsman generally refers to a person highly skilled in their craft. The rigor, focus, and dedication exhibited by these individuals are called the "spirit of craftsmanship." Historically, craftsmen were a group before modern society, and their work was mainly done manually. However, in the era of mechanized mass production, which emphasizes precision and quality, this aligns perfectly with the spirit of craftsmanship. Modern craftsmanship does not mean handwork is supreme; it requires the integration of human skill and technology. Modern craftsmanship involves the organic fusion of manual skills and modern technology. From Swiss watches to Boeing airplanes, they are all the result of harmony between traditional craftsmanship and modern mechanical technology.

For our company, every employee can become a “craftsman” in their position. Everyone has their own work, differing only in the tasks and approaches they undertake. In our jobs, some people may stay stagnant throughout their careers, while others thrive, become adept, and shine even in ordinary roles. The fundamental reason is their perception of their work, attitude toward it, and how they handle it. Although our work is often repetitive, good employees—worthy of being called craftsmen—continuously discover new problems, solve them, and thereby improve or enhance product or process quality and efficiency. Only by treating work as a form of cultivation can one create exceptional products and achieve remarkable accomplishments. Reporter: Zhang Suihong
